I fell in love with The Flash for a number of reasons. I remember watching it in my 4th hour every Thursday, amazed at the production. The way that I was able to fit into this world amazes me. The intensity of The Flash gives me comfort. For the past four years, I’ve been a part of Eastviews debate team. My favorite part of debate was the panic and excitement I felt when I performed. Everyday, The Flash gives me a similar rush. There is something freeing about being able to write about whatever you want to. The ideas that I have gotten to explore, the world I have gotten to search, and the people I’ve met. Throughout my portfolio, I have gotten the opportunity to display a range of my different stories, as they come to tell the story of my career in The Flash. The errors and flaws have been displayed alongside the high achievements and praise. I see them both as important in showing what makes a good journalist.
In the end, this is just a snapshot of my story, and my life. While I have spent the last two years exploring journalism I wish I could have done more. If I could go back, I would have taken every multimedia class available to me and used every resource at my disposal. I see that now I am taking every opportunity I can. I am proud of what I have accomplished but see that the possibilities are endless. I will be studying journalism next year, and can only hope to use my current skills to launch future success.
I also want to make it clear that I could not be here without so many other people. I would like to clearly thank the members of The Flash for making it the show that it is. All of these students are so incredibly intelligent, and I am blown away by their success. In particular I would like to thank Drew Hostetler, Ian Maclelack, Blake Hoffmann and Rowan Lee. These students have been here for me through thick and thin and have helped me develop into the creative I am. I would also like to thank my teacher, Mr. Fornicoia for all he has ever done for me. He believed in my skills as a journalist, and gave me the courage to go for something like this.
Finally, I would like to thank the Journalism Education Association for taking the time to look over my application. The fact that someone is looking at my work with such a critical lens is mind blowing, and I’m beyond grateful.
