To Whom it May Concern:
I am honored to write this letter of recommendation for Ms. Madysen Leick. I have worked with her as a student in my Honors American Literature class as a sophomore, and she was in my Modern Literature course this fall as a senior. I am also fortunate as I still see her once a week in Advisory, which is like a once-a-week homeroom.
This year, Madysen has been a driving force in the creative and thoughtful stories produced by our school’s student-produced news show. One of her news stories that resonates with me focused on the students who sit in the same desk, in the same classroom, over the seven period school day. What a crafty look into the diverse personalities and perspectives of our student body!
What stands out about Madysen is her passion for journalism and storytelling. Most days, we would talk about what she was working on for The Flash. Whenever I would have suggestions, she would listen eagerly and show a growth mindset. While I was not lucky enough to have her in a creative writing class, she did write an excellent short story for her teacher. Her focus this last year, especially, on storytelling helps Madysen be a thoughtful and intelligent journalist.
Sincerely,
Kymm Durocher

Madysen Leick is a very special young woman, one of whom I have had the pleasure of having in my Spanish 3, Spanish
5/University of Minnesota College in the Schools SPAN 1003 and 1004 class, and in my Spanish 6 class. Having known Mady
since her freshman year and having seen her shine in three increasingly difficult courses, I can speak with confidence about
her Spanish skills, but equally about her dedication and passion for journalism, where she has been able to shine in the last
two years in our school’s newscast “The Flash”. It has been fun to watch her grow in all areas – from behind the scenes in
technical roles, writing, and being on camera.
Mady is a top-notch scholar with qualities that lend to her excellence in journalism as well. She is hardworking,
conscientious, dedicated and responsible. Fueled by the strong desire to always do her best, Mady approaches all work, no
matter whether a simple assignment or an involved presentation or project, with the same careful attention to detail and
quality. She is always prepared for class and always more than willing to do her share. In addition, she is a competent group
member: reliable, positive and productive. In large group discussions, I can always depend on Mady to volunteer answers
and share her thoughts with the class. She is thorough, organized, and sets high standards for herself.
I have known Mady since her ninth grade year, where in a class of mostly 10th and 11th graders, she was more timid but
always a thinker. However since getting involved in student journalism, she has come out of her shell and has taken more of
a leadership role in my class and on “The Flash”. I have been particularly impressed with her story choices, including one that
she worked on about Hispanic Heritage Month. She has found her voice and through her Spanish studies, she has a bigger
lens in which she sees the world.
Well-liked by both peers and teachers, Mady gets along with all. Graced with a great sense of humor and a cheerful
nature, she is not afraid to laugh at herself and to truly enjoy learning all that she can. Determined and conscientious,
inquisitive and insightful, Ms. Madysen Leick is an extraordinary young woman with much to offer the world. It is with my
highest recommendation that I present her for your consideration for the Journalist of the Year award.

To Whom It May Concern:
It gives me great honor to write this recommendation in support of Mady Leick. I have had the pleasure of
knowing Mady the past three years as a student in Broadcast Journalism, and our weekly show The Flash.
Through her work in my presence, I have had the opportunity to observe her in a variety of settings. It is this
observation of Mady that I feel substantiates this recommendation.
Mady is one of the most highly motivated students with whom I have had the pleasure of working. Not only
does she possess the aptitude of a highly skilled student, but she possesses a drive that separates her from her
peers. Mady has demonstrated responsibility in organizing a variety of tasks and activities that have been
beneficial to the entire school. She is the main anchor for our television show called The Flash. Her ability to
inform the audience is surpassed by none. She delivers the script with enthusiasm and professionalism. In
addition, Mady is becoming a superb script writer. She has written all of her anchor scripts and she has written
and produced many segments on tape. These segments have been outstanding.
In addition to her role as Anchor/reporter, Mady has been a director, producer, floor director, technical director,
audio technician, and camera operator. In these roles, as with all her endeavors, Mady always strives to do her
best. She has an internal drive that is unmatched by students her age.
Mady’s greatest contribution to our show and school is as reporter. She has sought out stories that have made
an impact on the student body and demonstrated her love for storytelling and journalism. She is one of the most
coachable students I have had in my 25 years and she applies our lessons to her stories consistently.
Not only does Mady maintain her academic success in my classroom, she also exemplifies dedication and
determination in her other classes. Mady has gone above and beyond the normal expectations of a high school
student. She has been a complete student in my presence with supreme moral character and unmatched
integrity. It has been a joy to watch Mady grow and mature into an outstanding student and person over the past
two years.
Mady Leick is an intelligent, driven, and passionate young lady. She has consistently performed at a high level
in her academic career while maintaining loyalty and service to her school. It is with great pleasure that I give
my highest recommendation to Mady.
Sincerely,
